Considered one of the greatest long-distance runners ever, Eliud Kipchoge has had a notable career and is still adding on.

Born November 5, 1984, the 38-year-old Kenya runner proves age is not a factor when it comes to long distances. Kipchoge started running as a child running to and from school.

In 2003, 19-year-old Kipchoge recorded his first of many major wins in the 5,000-meter run at the World Championships.

One year later he won his first bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics and a silver in the 2008 Olympics.

After the 2012 Olympic games Kipchoge changed his focus from track races to marathons. He won his first marathon in Hamburg, Germany running the marathon in two hours, five minutes and 30 seconds.

From 2014 to 2019 Kipchoge entered 10 marathons and he won every single one of them.

Five years after he ran his first marathon Kipchoge broke the marathon world record by running a two-hour, one min and 39 second time. In 2022 he then again broke his own world record by 30 seconds.

In the 2016 and 2020 Olympic games, Kipchoge claimed gold medals in the marathon.

No one ever had run under a two-hour marathon and Kipchoge wanted to be the first to accomplish this.

In 2017 he failed the attempt but bounced back in 2019 to run the first-ever sub-two-hour marathon. He beat the two-hour mark by 20 seconds.

Although this time is not set in the record books because it did not follow the rules of a typical marathon, it is still a very notable accomplishment.
